What is PVC?

Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, is a thermoplastic polymer that can be produced in flexible or rigid forms. It’s the third-most-popular plastic polymer in the world, trailing only polyethylene and polypropylene. First created in 1872, PVC consists of vinyl chloride monomers — made by heating ethylene and chlorine — that are then polymerized to give it more density.
