How To Apply Window Film

Achieve professional results and save money by following these steps!

Tools:

Be sure to apply the film when the sun is not shining directly on glass.

  1. Trimming: Wet the window and lay the film on the wet glass. The water will hold the film while you trim it 1” larger than the glass size.  Set the film aside by using water to stick it to an adjacent window or by having a helper hold it.
  2. Clean the Window: Wet the glass and scrape the window with a paint scraper.  Use a sponge and the soap solution to clean the window after scraping and squeegee dry, wiping the blade between each pass.  Use a lint free cloth to wipe around the window frame to remove dirt along the edges.
  3. Removing the Release Liner: Place the window film on the wet window with the release liner facing you. Spray the exposed film with the soap solution as you slowly remove the liner to avoid a static charge.
  4. Application and Trimming: Spray the center of the clean glass and your window film thoroughly, then apply the film to the window.  Use a Flexi-Edge squeegee in a pushing motion from the center to remove water and air bubbles.  Stop 1” from the edge. Use a snap off razor blade and 5 way tool to trim the edges. A small barely noticeable gap should remain around the edges.  Use a polyethylene TAP squeegee to force remaining water out to the edges from the center, drying with a lint free cloth at the edge.

It can take up to 30 days for the film to bond to the glass. Refrain from cleaning the window in that time frame.  Cloudiness is normal and will clear as the film and window dry.
